Tintern Abbey
Despite the shell of this grand structure being open to the skies, it remains the best-preserved medieval abbey in Wales. Although the abbey church was rebuilt under the patronage of Roger Bigod, lord of nearby Chepstow Castle, in the late 13th century, the monastery retains its original design. Tintern Abbey is an absolute spectacle and is a must visit when in the area, and is only a minute walk from the hotel.
Chepstow Castle
Chepstow Castle is the oldest surviving post-Roman stone fortification in Britain, located above cliffs on the River Wye. If there is a castle that comes close to matching Harlech in historical importance, that castle is surely Chepstow. Situated in the town of Chepstow just 5 miles from Tintern, buses are available just outside the hotel, please ask at reception for timetables.
Caldicot Castle
Visit Caldicot Castle in its beautiful setting of tranquil gardens and a wooded country park. Founded by the Normans, developed in royal hands as a stronghold in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home, the castle has a romantic and colourful history.
